Police officers were involved in two separate shooting incidents in Dallas that left two men injured Wednesday night.

Witnesses said they saw Dallas police officers shoot a man near a check cashing business on Martin Luther King Boulevard near U.S. Highway 175 just before 9 p.m.

Dallas police said officers were called to help with a shoplifting call in the 1900 block of MLK and  when they arrived they found the security guard who made the call with another man outside of the business. Officers ordered the man, whose name has not been released, to put his hands on their patrol car, but he refused and reached into his pocket.

While drawing their stun guns, officers demanded the man show his hands.  As the man continued reaching into his pocket, Sr. Cpl. Joseph Bowling shot the man with the stun gun.

The man dropped to the ground, pulled the stun gun's prongs from his chest, pulled out a knife from his pocket and began running down MLK Boulevard.

Bowling and officer Samantha Salazar chased the man, who ran into a check cashing business on the 2300 block of MLK.  The man then tried to keep the officers from entering the business by yanking the door closed every time Bowling tried to open it.  Police said the man then suddenly opened the door and lunged at Bowling with the knife in a raised position.

Fearing for his life, Bowling fired his weapon, police said.  Seeing the man lunging at Bowling, Salazar also fired her weapon.

The man was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas  where he is listed in stable condition.  Police have not said how many times the man was struck, or by which officers.

The officers were not injured.

Earlier in the night, a man was shot as Denton tactical and narcotic teams conducted an investigation in the 3600 block of Frankford Road in a far northwest portion of Dallas that sits in Denton County.

It happened sometime after 7 p.m. Denton police said the man they were investigating shot at officers and at least one officer returned fire.

The man was shot and taken to Medical City Plano with non-life-threatening injuries. None of the officers were injured.

NBC 5's Julie Fine contributed to this report.
